How Should A T-Shirt Fit – Men’s Clothing Fit Guide – Crew Neck, V-Neck, Designer, Cheap
(classical music) – Hi, I’m Ashley Weston, I’m a celebrity menswear stylist this video is part of my Mens Clothing Fitguide. To see the other articles and videos in this series check out this link. So let’s talk about how your T-shirts should fit.
Starting with the neck opening, crew necks are pretty standard across all brands so just make sure that it fits relatively close to your neck the one thing you wanna avoid is it looking stretched out so that’s it but if you’re wearing V-necks, avoid deep Vs at all costs. Man cleavage is no-no, please don’t. Some brands will have deeper Vs than others so just make sure that the bottom point of the V doesn’t go past the top of your armpits. Moving on to the sleeves.
The sleeves should hit mid bicep and should lightly hug your arms. They shouldn’t be too tight where it looks like your biceps are being strangled, but they also shouldn’t be so roomy that it looks like your arms are just swimming in them, and then they just start to look puny and small. If the T-shirt fits well everywhere else except the sleeves, then just have your tailor slim the sleeves. I do this all the time with my clients. It’s an easy fix and it’s super cheap. Next up is the body of the shirt.
Like I’ve said in all my shirting videos and articles the perfect fitting T-shirt will be when you can pinch between one to two inches of fabric on either side of your stomach. Now if you think this doesn’t apply to you, that’s (bleep). Any body type, I don’t care what your age is, this applies to you. A lot of my larger clients like to fight me on this until they start receiving complements left and right.
The last and final point is the length of your T-shirt. You want your T-shirt to end somewhere between mid to upper crotch. I would definitely say go more towards mid crotch so that you don’t flash a bunch of stomach when you’re reaching up and you can also then lightly tuck in the front of your T-shirt to help break up your proportions if you want. So that’s how your T-shirts should fit.
